PAINTING 21

The aim of the exhibition series “Painting”, which started in 2004, is to present how the medium of painting constantly questions itself and also renews itself. It shows how painting, despite all the technical progress of artistic media, on the one hand remains with itself above all discussions, and on the other hand participates in contemporary developments and develops a future perspective from them. For this edition, works by Tuğba Durukan, Theresa Heitfeld, Haakon Neubert and Nette Pieters were selected by a jury of four.

The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) has supported the series since its inception. On the one hand, it promotes young artists from the region; on the other, it is the task of the LWL’s general cultural promotion to allow as many people as possible to participate in culture in the region. The concept of showing a carefully curated painting exhibition with young positions at annually changing locations in Westphalia fits this mission ideally.
