Many offers planned for citizens

Zum halbjährlichen Planungstreffen kamen die Mitglieder beider Vereine an diesem Wochenende in Rheine zusammen.

The partnership between Borne (NL) and Rheine will continue to be filled with life

HEINE. Exchanges between schoolchildren and senior citizens’ groups, sporting events, concerts and a joint two-day cycle tour in the Giethoorn area – the partner committee Borne and the town twinning association Rheine have a lot planned again this year. At the annual planning meeting at the weekend in Rheine, the plans were fleshed out and new ideas discussed. After two and a half hours of lively discussions, it was clear that there is a lot on offer for interested citizens this year too.

The first event will be a visit to the traditional “Borne op z’n Best” event on April 21. This event is particularly popular because of the nationwide “Living Statues” competition. But the music program, cultural offerings and Sunday shopping also attract thousands of people to Borne. The town twinning association Rheine will once again be organizing a bus. All interested citizens can take part. This time, the group from Rheine will be welcomed with a coffee at the Kulturhuus. Afterwards, visitors can stroll through Borne on their own. To register, please contact (Tel: 05971/939221). A small fee is charged for the trip.

The primary school exchange program also starts again in June. The Johannesschule Eschendorf and the elementary school in the Borner district of Hertme are taking part. Art exhibitions will follow. Gerrit Musekamp (Spektrum 88) exhibits in the Borner synagogue in June. This will be followed in the fall by an exhibition by Theo Hendricksen from Borne in the Kunstmeisterhaus. Lovers of traditional Byzantine choral music should make a note of this date: on November 17, the “Overijssels Byzantijns Mannenkoor” will once again perform in the city church of St. Dionysius. Contacts are also being established between choirs from Rheine and Borne.

In June, at the invitation of the Herz-Jesu seniors, an all-day bicycle tour will take place in the Rheine area. The Rheinenser have invited the seniors from Borne and have put together an attractive program for the day. The partner committee Borne has agreed to promote participation in this first senior citizens’ meeting for many years among the senior citizens’ groups in the twin town.

A delegation from Rheine will once again take part in the commemoration of the liberation from National Socialism on May 4. Next year will be the 80th anniversary of this commemoration. To mark the occasion, the city partners want to offer a memorial trip to the former Herzogenbosch concentration camp for young people from both countries. The Bornenser also pointed out that, to mark the 80th anniversary of the commemoration next year, Rheines mayor will be invited to give a speech at the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial in Borne for the first time.

And last but not least, the partner committee Borne and the board of the town twinning association want to look at the requirements for future town twinning work in light of changing social conditions. This will be addressed at a weekend seminar in the second half of the year.

The usual productive planning meeting ended with a joint dinner in the “Bote Veit”.
