Rheine/Borne. Despite temperatures of around 10 degrees and sometimes light showers, many visitors from Rheine once again had lots of fun and entertainment in the twin town. Because “Borne op z’n best” – the best of Borne – also delivered on Sunday what it has been promising for years: music, entertainment, culture and of course the “Living Statues” in the old part of Borne.

The old part of Borne was packed with people.

Many from Rheine had come to the twin town by car, some by bike on the new “Vriendenweg”. The twinning association had chartered a bus again this year, so that around 50 association members and friends had traveled to the Netherlands together.

The members of the association were welcomed by the board of the partner committee Borne-Rheine in the Kulturhaus, where they were invited to warm up with a copje of coffee. Several tens of thousands of visitors crowded through the streets and alleyways. An art and creative market attracted visitors with its many offerings. There was dancing and music, especially around the Kulturhaus. And many a stall had culinary delights on offer.

The highlight of the event was, of course, the “Living Statues”, which were on display in the old part of the village. Here, 53 statues from Germany and abroad competed for the favor of the visitors, who were able to name their favorites using a voting card or an app. The statues that included the children in their presentation were particularly crowded. This was particularly true of the eventual winner “Auntie T”, who was able to move 360 degrees on her hemisphere. She tirelessly poured tea into the cups held aloft for the little ones.https://youtu.be/1P0zZBpsjpU
