CITY CYCLING 2024 in Rheine starts on May 09, 2024

Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann invites the citizens of the city to pedal for more cycling promotion and climate protection in the CITY CYCLING competition

RheineThis year, the city of Rheine is once again taking part in the competition, which aims to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way over 21 days. Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann will officially launch the campaign, which will take place in Rheine from 9 May to 29 May 2024, at the city park festival at 13:00.

The mayor is confident that the cycling enthusiasts in the city of Rheine will once again take part in CITY CYCLING in 2024 with joy and enthusiasm. “After all, the cyclists from our city have already taken 1st place nationwide three times as the most active cycling municipality! Last year, they cycled a record 892,000 kilometers together!”

The background to the nationwide campaign, which recorded over one million participants last year, is the mobility transition, which is important for climate protection. Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann explains: “Anyone who switches to cycling for everyday mobility not only promotes their own health, but also contributes to improving the quality of life in Rheine.”

Thomas Roling and Michael Wolters from the Mobility and Transport Planning department are also pursuing the goal of advancing the sustainable transport transition. The transport experts also see another benefit of the CITY CYCLING campaign. Thomas Roling says: “Anyone who uses the CITY CYCLING APP automatically helps to create a map of the most frequently used cycle paths in Rheine. The data, which is of course anonymized, helps us with cycle path planning in Rheine”.

Michael Wolters adds, “We therefore want to focus on the topic of “everyday routes” in this year’s CITY CYCLING. We would rather people in Rheine use their bikes 20 times for short distances and leave their cars at home than ‘tear off’ 100 km once at the weekend”.

Registrations for CITY CYCLING can be made at www.stadtradeln.de. So far, 1,345 people have already registered in 182 teams.
