The Association for the Promotion of the Gottesgabe Salt Works and the Municipal Museums Rheine are delighted to announce the opening of a new educational service for the public in the Salt Boiling House: A media station will be put into operation on Sunday, March 10: Three short films can then be called up on a large screen with sensors (“touch function”), providing information about the journey from brine to salt crystal. Drawn, animated illustrations in 3D show how salt extraction worked in the past and cinematic impressions give an insight into the work on the large boiling pans, which have been preserved in a very similar way in Bentlage to this day. The highlight: three short educational games for children have also been developed for the media station, so that children can be sensitized to the historical monument by putting together a puzzle or searching for the salt mouse. In future, the media station will mainly be used for groups visiting the Salzsiedehaus as part of a guided tour or educational program.

On the opening day, visitors young and old can try out the station for themselves during the family afternoon from 2 to 5 pm. The topic of salt can also be experienced with all the senses on this day. Boiling will be demonstrated in the glass pavilion at the Saltworks Association’s show boiling pan; in the salt workshop, children can boil brine themselves in small pans and all the tour guides will provide interesting information about the history of the salt boiling house and the people who used to work here. Admission is free. Information: 05971 939 711.

The “Media Station” project was made possible by funding from the NRW Foundation for Nature Conservation, Local Heritage and Cultural Preservation, which has provided significant support to the Association for the Promotion of the Gottesgabe Salt Works for the second time. Back in 2017, the foundation supported the construction of the glass pavilion with the stationary stainless steel boiling pan, which is an excellent place to observe the salt extraction process.
