Municipality of Leiria allocates 819 thousand euros to three associations to build nurseries in the municipality

This Monday, the Municipality of Leiria signed program contracts for financial support with three institutions in the municipality’s social sector, amounting to 819,000 euros, with the aim of supporting the construction of crèches, creating 126 more places for children, representing an important social response in the area of childcare.

ADESBA – Associação de Desenvolvimento e Bem Estar Social da Freguesia da Barreira (Barreira Parish Social Welfare and Development Association), Academia Cultural e Social da Maceira (Maceira Cultural and Social Academy) and Centro Social Paroquial Paulo VI (Paulo VI Parish Social Center) were the entities that received this support, and their projects were also co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan – PRR.

At the session to sign the program contracts, the mayor of Leiria, Gonçalo Lopes, highlighted the important role played by Private Social Solidarity Institutions in meeting the most pressing social needs, considering that the construction of crèches is a priority in the municipality, particularly to meet the high demand that Leiria has for people who want to live and work here.

The ceremony was also attended by the councillor for Social Action, Ana Valentim, the director of Social Security at Leiria, João Paulo Pedrosa, and representatives of the supported institutions.

It should be noted that the construction of crèches responds to high priority needs diagnosed and identified in the planning instruments of the Local Social Action Plan of Leiria.

The model project for the crèches was developed by the municipality and made available free of charge to these institutions.
