‘Rápida’ will connect Leiria and Marinha Grande in 15 minutes via the A8 as of December

‘Rápida’, a bus that will connect the municipalities of Leiria and Marinha Grande via the A8, starts operating next Monday, December 4th. This is a faster, more comfortable, safer and less polluting transport service.

This new service will operate between 6:35 am and 8:20 pm (first departure at Marinha Grande Stadium and last arrival at Leiria, at the Municipal Swimming Pools stop) on weekdays and will be free of charge until the end of the year.

The bus will run between the Marinha Grande Municipal Stadium and the Leiria Municipal Stadium, via the A8, on an estimated 15-minute route, no longer than 20 minutes, with stops also in the Marinha Grande Industrial Zone and next to Campus 2 of the Polytechnic of Leiria and LeiriaShopping.

From January 2024, tickets bought from the driver will cost 2.5 euros and a book of ten journeys costs 20 euros. The monthly pass costs 25.50 euros.

This service is intended to respond to the traffic flow problems on the N242, which connects Leiria to Marinha Grande, as well as allowing connections with MOBILIS, at Leiria, and with TUMG’s Yellow Line, in Marinha Grande. Another advantage of this service is that users can use the free parking spaces near urban centers, such as the Leiria Stadium, the Leiria Municipal Swimming Pool Complex, the Leiria Market and the Marinha Grande Stadium.

The creation of this line is part of a sustainable mobility system prepared by the Intermunicipal Community of the Region of Leiria – CIMRL, which aims to connect the ten municipalities that make it up (Ansião, Alvaiázere, Batalha, Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Leiria, Marinha Grande, Pedrógão Grande, Pombal and Porto de Mós).
