Four Choirs – A Hundredfold Thanks

Four choirs from Bornwe performed today at “Borne musiziet” for the 40th anniversary of the city. The many hundreds , often changing visitors of the street party, did not spare with great applause for the performances.

“Born to Pop” made the beginning. Sung was mainly English-language pop music, but also a number of Dutch songs were part of the repertoire, which spanned the entire period from the 70s to the present, from the Doobie Brothers to Lady Gaga, from David Bowie to Small Orchestra.

The women’s choir “Cantabile” had light classical music and classics of light music in its repertoire. Cantabile is a choir of the music school department of “Kulturhuis De Bijenkorf”. It recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The “Melbuul’n Piratenkoor” already celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024. He performs around Borne, now also in Rheine. Also in Nordhorn, Wilhelmshaven, Bremerhaven and Paderborn one already made music. Dressed up as real pirates, they performed English and German songs and shanties in addition to Dutch songs. The “Kleine Kneipe” in Dutch made the audience sway.

The “Borns Kleinkoor” under the inspiring leadership of conductor Bram van der Beek formed the calm, inspiring end of this concert afternoon. In the more than 75 years of their existence they have built up a large and very varied repertoire. Annually there is the Christmas concert, which usually takes place in the Oude Kerk in Borne. In addition, the Borns Kleinkoor offers a rich variety of music in a Byzantine atmosphere.

The focus this year is mainly on a somewhat lighter style of music, where the melody line is mostly with the second tenors. The classical repertoire is not neglected either, as the choir enjoys singing works by Schubert, Haydn and Mozart.
