Children of St. Aegidius have breakfast with Mayor Jan Pierik

The importance of a good and healthy breakfast is high on society’s agenda. To emphasize the importance of a healthy breakfast, Mayor Jan Pierik breakfasted this morning together with pupils from group 7/8 of St. Aegidius Elementary School. With the Mayor’s Breakfast, Mayor Jan Pierik and the pupils together set a good example.

Mayor Jan Pierik, like 238 other mayors in the Netherlands, underlines the importance of a healthy breakfast. During breakfast Mayor Jan Pierik talked with the children about the importance of eating breakfast. Do they eat breakfast every day, what do the children prefer to eat and why is this meal so important? After breakfast, JOGG coordinator Reshmie Oogink conducted a quiz with the students. The quiz asked questions about the importance of healthy eating and drinking enough water.

The Mayor’s BreakfastThe Mayor’s Breakfast took place from Oct. 9 to 13, in cooperation with municipalities and schools, and is part of the National School Breakfast, which has taken place in a new format since last year. It is an opportunity for bakers to showcase their craft and to join the mayor in emphasizing the importance of a healthy breakfast.

Starting the day wellThe elementary school children had breakfast with a breakfast package that meets the current guidelines of the Nutrition Center. The package included a whole wheat bread, whole wheat buns and whole wheat currant rolls from Bakkerij ‘t Stoepje and healthy toppings. Furthermore, the mayor and children could choose from semi-skimmed dairy, tea, vegetables and fruit. Healthy and tasty!
