On Saturday, May 4, the remembrance of the dead took place in Borne. An annual moment of remembrance for the victims of the 2nd World War.At 19.00 a memorial service was held in the Old Church of Borne to which, as in previous years, Mayor Luttmann and a delegation of the Partnerverein Rheine were invited. Speakers were Mayor Pierik of Borne and Reverend Borgers. The whole event was enlivened with atmospheric choral music and poems.Afterwards, all those present were presented with a white rose, which was carried in a silent procession by formerBorne to the war memorial at the Dorset restaurant.Here a large crowd was waiting with the Eurregio Brass Band playing choral music.
At 8 p.m. the tattoo signal was blown after which the national anthem was played. By the mayor of Borne, the city council of Borne, the mayor of Rheine, the veterans and the chairmen of the partner committee Borne-Rheine and the Partnerverein Rheine bouquets of flowers were placed at the memorial. Afterwards, the white roses that had been distributed could also be laid at the monument after which all those present could pause for a moment at the sea of flowers at the war memorial.
