Where are the women here?

Public guided tours of the monastery and the Salzsiedehaus on International Women’s Day

The Rheine Municipal Museums offer two public guided tours on Tuesday, March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. They will deal with the traces of female life in art and history. Start for all interested visitors is at 3 p.m. in the Museum Kloster Bentlage. During the joint tour of the Westphalian Gallery, one will quickly notice: Women are often depicted in paintings, but we rarely encounter them as artists. Why is that, in fact? The art of the turn of the century around 1900 and the conditions at that time for women to be artistically active are thematized. In front of the works of August Macke and Josef Albers, the focus will also be on their wives Elisabeth Macke and Anni Albers.

A second guided tour will be offered at 5 p.m. in the Salt Boiling House. Here, the historical salt warehouses and boiling pans will be presented as well as the museum for the writer Josef Winckler. The traces of female persons and personalities who played a role for this place are rather hidden. But today they are brought to the light of day.

The cost is € 5 per person at both museum locations. For women, participation today is free. A 2 G certificate is required for participation and medical mouth-nose covering or FFP 2 mask must be worn in the rooms. Since the number of participants is limited, we recommend that you register by calling 05971 – 920610 (weekdays) or by Tuesday, March 8 at 12 noon to .
