Seniors from Borne visit the Christmas market in Rheine

Sunday, December 10, 2023 80 members of the Born Seniors’ Unions, at the invitation of the Borne-Rheine Committee, visited our partner city Rheine.

This trip was offered to them as part of the 40th anniversary between the two partner cities and was a great opportunity to strengthen ties and celebrate together.

With 2 full buses we headed to Rheine and after a warm welcome by members of the Partnerschaftsverein Rheine a group photo was first taken.

Many then enjoyed the “Kaffee mit Kuchen”, others walked directly to the Nikolausmarkt.

At the Nikolausmarkt in the center, many booths had been decorated in Christmas atmosphere.

A ribbon of stalls with Christmas items, delicacies and a Glühwein lounge snaked through the center of Rheine while musicians and singing groups provided the cheerful note. There was also a pleasant buzz in town as all stores were open.

The fun in the marketplace was heightened as darkness fell and many lights came on in this beautifully decorated downtown area.

At 7 p.m. the buses pulled up again and we had a nice chat in the bus.

Our enthusiastic photographer from Rheine, Gerd Cosse, had already printed the group photos so that everyone could take a copy home. These were handed out in the bus on the way back, which was very well received by everyone. People had not expected this so soon.

All returned home satisfied and thanked the leaders for the pleasant afternoon.

All this was also made possible by a contribution from the Interreg Program Deutschland-Nederland with its program partners and co-financed by the European Union (EU).
