The exciting journey to the partners – part 2

Civic trip of the twinning association to Trakai in Lithuania

At a beautiful sunrise, the travel group of the town twinning association reached the Lithuanian port city of Klaipėda on its way to the twin city of Trakai.

From here, the group headed to Nidda in the Curonian Spit.

The Curonian Spit is a 98 km long peninsula on the northern coast of the Samland. It begins in Lesnoi and ends at the Memeler Tief. Since 1945, the northern 52 km belong to Lithuania and the southern 46 km to the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast. (Wikipedia)

Among other things, the Thomas Mann House in Nida was visited here. The Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann wrote here in his vacation home, this later became a meeting place of intellectuals during the Soviet era, since the 90s it is German-Lithuanian meeting place and museum.

The Thomas Mann House in Nidda (Nidden) stands in the fascinating landscape of the Curonian Spit between the Baltic Sea and the Lagoon, today in Lithuania close to the external EU border with Kaliningrad Oblast. This place used to be a part of East Prussia in the so-called Memel Land. Get acquainted with the Curonian Spit on a knowledge portal with lectures by natural scientists and humanists.

In the evening, the beautiful town of Klaipėda was explored on a walking tour.
