The executive committee has now completed the planning and invited the members to the events in an information letter.

With so far 50 participants from Rheine the inauguration of the Vriendenweg between Rheine and Borne from Rheiner side takes place on 26 August. After the Bornenser on Ascension Day with a larger group of cyclists were guests in the city park at the barbecue, the Rheinenser now ride under the leadership of Engelbert Nagelschmidt and helpers of the ADFC to the Melbuul’n Daagn to Borne. In the twin city the Rheinenser are welcomed after approximately five-hour bicycle route at 14 o’clock in the context of the large meeting. For the return journey in the evening a bus with bicycle trailer is ready. Some have also chosen to return by train from Hengelo. A larger part of the group will spend the night in Borne and start the way home the next day on the southern part of the Vriendenweg.

A highlight of the events celebrating the 40th anniversary of the partnership with Borne is the event “Borne makes music” on September 10, the street party Sunday, starting at 2 p.m. on the Bornesquare. During the coffee table on the square in front of City Hall, the groups “Borns Kleinkoor”, “Melbuul’n Piraten Koor”, “Born to pop” and “Cantabile” will offer a program on stage for about four hours.

A group of 20 students from the Portuguese twin town Leiria will be visiting Rheine for 14 days from the beginning of September. The young people will be accommodated in host families. An informative social program will introduce the guests from southern Europe to Rheine and the Münsterland region.

Meeting, exchange of opinions and also suggestions for further work are in the center of the grill evening, which takes place on 2 September at 17 o’clock on the area of the Centro S. Antonio at the Wibbeltstraße. This convivial event has enjoyed great popularity among members for years. In addition to working on exchanges and international meetings, it is also intended to foster communication within the association.

On the first weekend in October the Rheine-Bernburg-days take place in Rheine. The city and the town twinning association expect a delegation from Bernburg. For the first time as mayor, the new first woman at the head of the city, Silvia Ristow, will be present. The program is still being worked out. One of the highlights is however again a citizen picnic on the Bernburgplace at the city hall.

Guests from Trakai have the city partnership association on the street party weekend. Nijole Miskinite and Jonaus Kriauciunas, who were instrumental in building up and consolidating the partnership in the 1990s, are retiring from active work. The board of the town twinning association, together with the city of Rheine, would like to honor them once again for their services in a small ceremony in the Salzsiedehaus. Numerous companions who have worked together with the two Trakaierns over the many decades will also be invited.
