Tatüü, tataaaa – the fire department is here!

Das Spezialsternstündchen am vergangenen Freitag bot nicht nur für die kleinen Zuhörerinnen und Zuhörer einen tollen Einblick in die Arbeit der Feuerwehr.

Special star hour in the city library in cooperation with the fire department Rheine

Rheine. Actually, the large gate to the staff parking lot of the public library always remains closed. But last Friday it was wide open in the afternoon – for a good reason: Dennis Sterthaus from the fire station in Rheine had to be able to drive into the backyard with the big fire truck. And he met big, curious children’s eyes. More than 100 small and large guests had come to the special star hour in the interim library. There was a lot to figure out: What the fire department actually does all day long, what equipment and materials have to be transported in such a car, and why you can’t communicate via WhatsApp in case of fire? And who can actually say how many bathtubs of water fit into a fire truck?

In keeping with the theme, volunteer reader Margarete Gude read about Fips from the book “Fips Feuerwehr” (“Fips Fire Department”). A small fire truck that is pitied by the bigger cars because it is so small. Then, at a forest fire, Fips can show what she’s made of. She gets to the scene of the fire, while the other cars are too big for her.

After the story, as always, the children were allowed to pick up a glitter star for their reading book. This time, there were also small buttons, of course with a small fire engine on them, to match the occasion.

Around 4 p.m. it was over and the big gate to the backyard parking lot was closed again after an exciting, thrilling and great special star hour.
