Intercultural Meeting Center Centro S. Antonio participates in the Intercultural Week

Rheine. cpr. The Intercultural Week took place again this year at the end of September throughout Germany. Also the employees of the Intercultural Meeting Center Centro S. Antonio of Caritas Rheine participated in this week with several actions.

At the “Fest der Begegnung” (Festival of Encounter) on September 25 in Dorenkamp, they organized a photo campaign and presented the Centro S. Antonio with its many offerings. The visitors could be photographed in front of a country map and take the photos with them as a souvenir of a beautiful day. Many guests enjoyed this action, so that there was a long queue in front of the “mobile photo studio” for a short time. “A great action at such a great celebration. The photo will have a special place in my home,” said one visitor to the festival.

The following Tuesday, employees invited guests to “Meet & Eat” at Centro S. Antonio. In all, more than twenty people from around the world gathered to cook and eat together. Among them were volunteers, Caritas employees, refugees from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran and Ukraine. Together they cooked the Afghan national dish “Kabuli Palau”, a rice pan with lamb. Many new acquaintances were made over interesting conversations, delicious food and Turkish tea. “This was really a culinary journey of discovery in a cozy atmosphere.” one participant summed up the experience.

On Thursday, a storyteller was a guest at Centro S. Antonio. Renate Schuurmann told fairy tales from all over the world. The big and small guests were enthusiastic about the fairy tales “Chicken, Duck, Mouse” from Tajikistan or the African fairy tale “Dog and Crocodile”. Other fairy tales from Romania, Norway and France were also thought-provoking. The afternoon was rounded off with a Japanese kamishibai theater. “The fairy tales were very exciting. I also loved the kamishibai theater. There were such beautiful pictures with it.”, reported a little guest.

“We had a lot of fun this week with our activities during the Intercultural Week. We are always happy when new people can get to know each other and new encounters are made possible for the cultures among each other. The Intercultural Week is ideally suited to be a place for encounters, dialogue and diverse activities,” summarized Kevin Löcke, coordinator of the Centro S. Antonio at the end of the week.

The Centro S. Antonio has been a place for intercultural encounters in Rheine for many years. Interested parties are always welcome to get to know and visit Centro S. Antonio at Ludwigstraße 9. For example, the International Language Café is always held on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m.
