Past meets future

Association Historic Old Town had invited to the (external) inspection of the house Münstermauer 27

Rheine. What do you do if you invite guests on “Open Monument Day” but are not allowed to let them into the house? Because the house Münstermauer 27 is not yet open to the public due to building regulations, those interested were at least able to find out about the interior by looking through the windows.

The chairman of the Historical Old Town Association, Dr. Peter Rohlmann, together with other board members, reported on the start of the restoration work and the further course of events. This was currently stalled due to a lack of supplies and specialists, Rohlmann pointed out the current difficult situation in the construction sector as well. In front of the building, the members had set up an information tent where visitors could learn about the history and future plans of the association. The association now has very detailed knowledge about many historical milestones, because association members and historians Angelika Eilting, Angelika Pries and Stefanie Remberg have gone into research and discovered many highly interesting facts. Among other things, the trio has also worked out the basis for a differentiated target group concept in terms of monument education. Furthermore, the researchers have developed a concept for the guest guides of Rheine tourism events

City guide Hans Rocker slipped into the role of journeyman butcher Engelbert Brüning (1812 -1911). Dressed in clothes typical of his profession at the time, he presented his view of life in the house at Münstermauer 27 and the town of Rheine, which had 5,000 inhabitants at the time.
