Our Schotthock – Here’s to being good neighbors

Launch celebrations on Wednesday, February 7

RheineThe focus is on the future of Schotthock. So far, 23 measures have been formulated for the redesign and redevelopment of the district and the first projects are already being implemented. Reason enough to celebrate this with citizens at a small kick-off event on Wednesday, February 7, from 5:30 p.m. in the Ludgerusforum and to explain the previous and future steps of the neighborhood development. All interested parties are cordially invited.

“Of the total of 23 measures, the first projects are slowly taking shape,” reports Sebastian Mecklenburg, the city planner responsible at Rheine. At the end of August 2023, the Münster district government issued the first grant notification for the start of the projects. The Schotthock is thus officially included in the state’s urban development funding; as a first step, the city of Rheine has been granted €1,066,000 in funding through the “Social Cohesion” program.

But what exactly is planned for the Schotthock in 2024? As Mecklenburg explains, “There will be a neighborhood management team and a neighborhood architect. They will take care of people’s needs and develop project ideas together with them. In this way, people will be involved in creating a vibrant district for everyone. As a central point of contact, the neighborhood management will be the point of contact for all citizens and will work with them to bring the topics of the integrated urban development concept to life. The district architect will also support property owners with advice and ideas for the refurbishment of properties. Both will be visible in the Schotthock and have office hours on site.

In addition, a feasibility study is being planned for the district center in order to create an attractive consultation and meeting space for the Schotthock residents. Green spaces and new tree planting are also planned for the district. “And of course we also want to take care of the district’s image. Together with all residents and a specialist office, we want to show the positive and beautiful sides to the outside world and strengthen self-esteem on the inside,” concludes Mecklenburg.
