On Thursday, Jan. 18, a new series of events will begin at Bentlage Monastery, the “Creative Monastery Afternoon.” Museum educator Alexandra Dolezych will organize this event every month from now on. In the museum, selected works from the “Westphalian Gallery” will first be scrutinized and together some “secrets” of the artists will be uncovered. Then participants can put their observations into practice in the museum studio in a quiet atmosphere while making their own creative designs. Prior knowledge is not required. The first session on Jan. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. will focus on the phenomenon of light in painting. You will create your own light compositions with pastel crayons on muslin canvas. The effect of the light and the brightness of the colors will be enhanced with a special technique that artists like Edgar Degas loved to use. The other dates are Feb. 15, March 14 and April 18 and can also be attended separately. Participation costs €8 per date, which includes all material costs. To sign up, call the municipal museums visitors’ bureau at Rheine at 05971 939 711 or email .
