Shooting festival in Boorne

Under a radiant sun and with tropical temperatures, on Saturday, June 10, 2023, the Born Rifle Association (BSV) held its annual archery festival and, just like Borne-Rheine, celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the association. Chairman Herman ter Weele recalled in his speech many events and contacts of the past 40 years. The first four opening shots were fired by Kees Oud (the oldest member of the BSV, because of his absence he was replaced by Toon Kotteman), Bernhard Schwering (director and one of the founders in 1983), Wolfgang Nehus (Wolfgang promoted the relationship between the marksmen associations from Borne and Rheine as well as the two partner towns. Due to his absence, his opening shot was taken over by Lorenz Dik (Euregio, which promotes cross-border cooperation of Dutch and German associations through the Interreg program “Deutschland-Nederland”) and Joost Withag (city prince of Borne who had the first shot in his proclamation). Then, at a beautiful location and in a perfect entourage, under the watchful eye of the many guests and invitees, including a hundred German guests from the partner city Rheine, with the 222nd shot René Morshuis became the new king of the BSV.At the same time, a number of children with disabilities were entertained with various shooting games. All children were then proclaimed king and queen. After that it was time for a little disco party for these children where, by the way, the archers, the archer ladies and all the guests were also entertained. After they had enjoyed the shooting and the disco to the full and laden with the necessary awards, these children were taken home by their supervisors. After the installation of the new king and his queen Ilse and the necessary attention by the German sister associations for the new king and the outgoing chairman Herman ter Weele, who handed over the chairman’s baton after 22 years, the festival of marksmen in the tent and outside could then begin. On Sunday the BSV celebrated the handover of the chairmanship and Herman ter Weele was appointed an honorary member of the BSV. Then the ladies of the marksmen competed for the title of marksman queen, which title was won by Petra Lassche. The shooting party of 2023 and the celebration of the 40th anniversary was then concluded in style in lederhosen and dirndls while enjoying drinks.
