Home prizes awarded by the city of Rheine

Der Vorstand des Stadtparkvereins wurde mit dem 1. Platz ausgezeichnet.

Rheine. Volunteers work in many different ways and with great commitment every day to make the city of Rheine attractive and worth living in. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Rheine are once again supporting this commitment in 2023 by awarding the NRW Homeland Prize.

The city’s culture committee Rheine acted as the jury for the Heimat Award and recognized several associations and individuals for their commitment.

The association Stadtpark Rheine e. V. was awarded 1st place. The association has been working to maintain and preserve the city park since 1951. The commitment of the members of the “Stadtparkverein” has made a significant contribution to ensuring that the park, which was created in 1849 as the private park of industrialist Jan Timmermann, is now accessible to everyone in our city.

As first place winner, the Stadtpark Association Rheine e.V. is automatically nominated for the NRW 2024 Local Heritage Prize.

Second place is shared by two citizens of our town who have been committed to the language, customs and history of the town for many years. One of them is Heinz Pöpping from Elte. Without him and his tireless efforts, valuable rural crafts and historically important cultural assets would have disappeared permanently. His half-timbered farmstead, where he lovingly presents all of this, is now known far beyond the town’s borders.

The town also honors Ludger Quiter from Hauenhorst. His love of the Low German language ensures that he keeps the language alive with a variety of activities, starting with Low German Küeraobenden, Käskenspielen, song evenings and theater performances.

In a ceremony, Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann presented the prizes to the winners together with Helena Willers, Chairwoman of the Culture Committee.
