Vacation program of the Municipal Museums

Beim Wiegen des selbstgesiedeten Salzes - Städtische Museen Rheine

Hooray, the summer vacations are here! And now? For children who are interested in creative design or exciting discoveries, the municipal museums have a varied range of courses on offer from the first week of the vacations – both in the Falkenhof Museum, in the Museum Kloster Bentlage and also in the salt workshop.

Brushes and glass paint are waiting to be used in the vacation course.

It starts in the morning on Tuesday, June 27. Children between the ages of 10 and 14 can try out painting on glass and reverse glass painting at the Falkenhof Museum. The museum has a great collection of historical glass objects. Especially impressive are numerous finds from the long-buried canal system that ran under the Falkenhof. Here, the course participants will find great ideas for creating their own glass objects. Sometimes vessels will be decorated with plant decorations or geometric patterns, sometimes the very special historical technique of reverse glass painting will be tried out. The free course takes place from 10 am to 1 pm.

In the museum monastery Bentlage it goes with magnifying glass and coal to the work

Also on a Tuesday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the museum studio at Museum Kloster Bentlage will be open for children aged 7 to 12. Under the motto “Look closely, draw with charcoal”, the young course participants will discover the world through a magnifying glass. Together, the group explores the exhibition in the dormitory with works by the English artist Johanna Love, who even used a microscope when creating some of the pictures. So what do small and rather inconspicuous things look like when you look at them up close? The course participants can explore this and capture it on paper with the special drawing medium charcoal.

Painting with pastels

And again a week later, painting with pastels is on the agenda. On July 11, children ages 10 to 14 are invited to create bright paintings in pastels in the Falkenhof Museum studio. Inspired by the still lifes in the museum’s collection, they will create luminous pictures painted with pastels on fabric – a great technique that was very popular with many well-known artists in the 19th century. The summer vacation program of the Municipal Museums also includes two courses in the salt workshop, where children aged 7 to 10 can earn their salt works diploma on July 19 and 20. The participants learn some tasks of the former salt boilers and will boil naturally also own salt from the Bentlager brine. The conclusion sets in the last vacations week the course landscape painting in acryl in the falcon yard museum.
