Exhibition tour “Salt. Stories of the white gold from Rheine”. For centuries, Rheine was a salt town, because the Gottesgabe salt works in Bentlage supplied the people of Münsterland with the vital “white gold”. For the first time, the history of the saltworks is now the subject of an exhibition at the Falkenhof Museum, for which a public guided tour will be offered on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at 3 pm. The guided tour of the exhibition will focus on the people who produced salt and profited from the salt trade. Bold dreamers, aristocratic experts, headstrong crusaders, a researcher and a photographer will be introduced during the tour, as well as the working world of a pre-industrial company, which is unusual from today’s point of view. For the exhibition, numerous deeds, maps, plans, documents and photos were “brought to light” that have rarely or never before been presented to the public. These include highlights such as the founding contract of the Münstersche Salinensozietät with signatures and seals of the noble investors and several parchment documents of the early 17th century, which also reveal the political and economic interests in the trade with salt. The cost is € 5 per person. Information: Tel. 05971 939-711.
