Senior citizens’ groups from Rheine and Borne met in the twin city for a planning meeting
Borne/Rheine. “If only half of these points are implemented in the coming year, then that is already a huge success,” said Grieje Rosink from the partner committee Borne and Reiner Wellmann, chairman of the town twinning association Rheine, after a working meeting in Borne. 25 representatives of senior citizens’ groups from both towns had met in the Borner Kulturhaus to discuss joint activities and meetings for the coming year. And what had been documented there after one hour on a board, that was already a long list with suggestions and ideas. However, the main common denominator was the firm will to fill senior citizens’ meetings with life again after the pandemic and to cultivate commonalities.
Representatives of the senior citizens’ community Herz-Jesu, the senior citizens of the Johannesgemeinde, the senior citizens’ advisory board of the city, the Awo senior citizens, the CDU senior citizens’ union and the Verdi senior citizens came from Rheine. The Borner seniors were represented by representatives of seniors from church congregations and community groups.
With coffee and Krinteweggen it went under the direction of Grietje Rosink directly to the work. The first suggestions ranged from a joint barbecue afternoon and a tour of Rheine to a bicycle tour through the city. The CDU seniors invited the Bornenser to participate in a news bus tour through Rheine with the mayor. And for the Seniors’ Advisory Council, Robert Winnemöller offered to present the new Rheine app for seniors and to discuss the city’s social report Rheine together with the Dutch. Furthermore, he referred to a series of events “Shaping the end of life”. The Bornenser expressed their interest in again offering a bus trip to the Christmas market in Rheine in the community. Furthermore, they pointed out a “High Tea event” that would certainly be of interest to Rheinenser.
After the working meeting, a guided tour of Alt-Borne took place. The participants got to know the twin town with numerous interesting episodes and historical explanations. The meeting ended with lunch in the House of Culture. When saying goodbye, all participants expressed their firm intention to facilitate meetings between the senior citizens of both twin towns on a larger scale in the coming year.
