Caritas special school Rheine offers federal voluntary service in unexpected area

Rheine.cpr. With the slogan “Do something meaningful!” the Voluntary Social Service (FSD) of the Diocese of Münster in cooperation with partners such as Caritas Rheine offers the Federal Volunteer Service. The Federal Volunteer Service is an offer to people of all ages to get involved in the common good away from school and work. There are opportunities for this in the social, ecological and cultural fields or in the areas of sports, integration and civil defense and disaster control. In the Federal Volunteer Service, young people in particular can gain initial insights and knowledge from the professional world. The Christophorus School, the Caritas special school with a focus on mental development Rheine, offers a total of six places for the Federal Volunteer Service, including in the school secretary’s office and in class support.

Florine Böckenfeld completed a federal voluntary service in the school secretariat last year in order to orient herself professionally. Initially, she began a BFD with the goal of becoming an emergency paramedic after completing her technical college entrance qualification with a focus on education and social work. However, she quickly realized that the constantly changing shift work was too much of a burden. As a result, she switched to Christophorus School and, over the course of the last year, realized that her passion lay in the administrative field. As part of her federal voluntary service at Caritas Rheine, she had the opportunity to do two job shadowing sessions in the areas of accounting and human resources management. At her request, the job shadowing took place in the areas she was particularly interested in. She said she also took something away in terms of personal development. “I am now much more open in contact with other people and have also learned how to deal with difficult interpersonal situations,” Böckenfeld elaborated. “Working in the secretary’s office also rarely results in boredom, as fixed tasks and independent activities make for a good mix. Working in the school’s team and with the other BFDers was especially fun,” said Florine Böckenfeld. Based on the many experiences she was able to gain during the Federal Volunteer Service, Florine Böckenfeld will begin vocational training as an office management assistant in a publishing company and thus continue to pursue her career aspirations in the administrative field.
