On Sunday, July 21 at 3 p.m., a public guided tour with curator Christiane Kerrutt will be offered for the exhibition “In the Swimming Pool” in the Falkenhof Museum’s Print Cabinet. This summer exhibition at the museum combines urban history and art history. Photos and documents are reminiscent of swimming fun in Rheine in the 20th century – both in the Ems and in the open-air swimming pool – and may evoke one or two memories of long vacation days. In addition, paintings and prints from the 20th century are presented that show how artists have dealt with the theme of “people by the water” in very different ways. Water can even become a symbol for the course of life. The main focus will be on the painting “Swimming Pool”, painted by Carlo Mense around 1960. The painting was acquired by the city of Rheine in 1966 from his widow Vera Mense directly from the artist’s studio and is now being exhibited in the Falkenhof Museum for the first time in over twenty years. The participation fee is €5 per person; a transferable 4-person ticket is available for €16. The meeting point is at the museum ticket office.
