Commemoration of the deportation of German Jews to Latvia.
At Skirotova station, 15 Jews from Rheine also arrived with the “Bielefeld Transport” in December 1941. Presumably on the same day they were shot and thrown into pits. Today there are memorial stones at these large graves. Tens of thousands of Jews were murdered in the forests of Bikernieki. Their legacy: never should this barbaric crime be forgotten. Especially not in view of Russia’s brutal war of aggression on Ukraine!
In November a symposium of the Riga Committee will take place in Rheine. It will also deal with the future forms of appropriate commemoration and remembrance.
