Action program “Catching up to Corona

A theater project at Centro S. Antonio

Rheine. cpr. In the first vacation week before Easter, children from various elementary schools in Rheine were invited to a theater project at the Intercultural Meeting Center of Caritas Rheine, Centro S. Antonio. A total of 11 children from Bodelschwinghschule, Südeschschule, Michaelsschule, Gertrudenschule and Paul-Gerhardt-Schule took part in the project entitled “Dream a little before you think – and then let’s start together”. The project was accompanied by theater pedagogue Sophia Grüdelbach and her colleague Tetje Kegler.

With a lot of fun playing theater, new perspectives and spaces of experience were created for the children over four days. Among other things, the children were allowed to create still and mirror images, perform shadow plays, make sketches about themselves, go on dream journeys, or even fill treasure chests with their own “treasures” and strengths. In addition, recurring rituals gave the children a recognizable daily routine. In addition to these activities, healthy eating was also a musical theme at the joint lunch, for example with the “fruit song”. The goals included strengthening the self, promoting sensory perception and togetherness, and learning relaxation and concentration exercises.

The project was financed by the action program “Catching up with Corona” of the Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. “At the end of this week, the children were able to show their knowledge to their parents in a presentation. All the children were full of pride and joy. We were all able to see that playing theater is another form of learning and togetherness,” summed up the initiators Julia Weschmann and Kevin Löcke from the Migration and Integration Service of Caritas Rheine. In the second week of the vacations, the project is offered to children of the Ludgerus School.
