Rheine without racism – Rheine with courage invites young people
Rheine. Workshops on the topic of Hate Speech and Fake News as well as a subsequent Silent Party will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Jakobi Youth Center, Gartenstraße 9, in Rheine. All young people between the ages of 12 and 27 are invited to get involved in the topic of Rheine without racism – Rheine with courage. This youth event is organized by the Youth Office of the City of Rheine together with the Stadtjugendring, the Youth and Family Service, Caritas and the Jakobi Youth Center.
It is hard to imagine today’s world without the Internet. Social media such as Instagram, TikTok or even YouTube accompany young people through the day, facilitate communication, provide quick answers to any questions and offer entertainment. In addition to these practical benefits, however, hate can also be found online. This hate, also known as hate speech, specifically attacks individuals or entire groups. Fake news manipulates people and poisons togetherness.
The various workshops on this day will deal with the areas of hate speech, fake news and possible courses of action around the topics of racism and tolerance. Participants will learn how to recognize Hatespeech and Fake News and how to actively counter this form of hate. Memes and stickers will be used for this purpose.
The day’s program includes various workshops, a pizza break, and a silent party with a DJ at the end of the evening. The entrance, as well as the catering with food and drinks is free. The aim of the event is to set a sign as a citizen of the city of Rheine against racism and for tolerance. A youth group in Rheine already exists. These meet once a month in the youth center Jakobi for a film series, according to the motto “Look instead of look away”. The next dates are 28.04., 19.05., 30.06. and 28.07. this year. The committed young team is always happy to welcome new members. If someone should be thus between 12 to 27 years as and likewise its/their voice for a fair Rheine to raise to want, they are cordially welcome with the next meetings. The Rheine without Racism Team is always open to new suggestions and creative ideas, so that new projects can be pursued together. Therefore, be part of it and stand up for a city in which everyone feels good!
