Rheine.cpr. Inflation and rising energy costs hit hard those who already have little money available. More and more needy people are now dependent on further support. The advice parliamentary groups in the council of the city Rheine placed among other things for it a request for the support of social mechanisms for needy humans, like the Rheiner table, salt shakers or social point. Also in the cold season possibilities of staying for humans in difficult life situations in heated areas should be made possible.

Because prices are rising sharply, especially for food, more and more people are dependent on the support of the Tafel, including in Rheine. At the Rheiner Tafel, donated food is distributed to people with low incomes. “Especially in these times, many people are dependent on additional support services,” explains Caritas board member Dieter Fühner. “This is also evident, for example, in the strong increase in demand for the Tafel. Currently, the Rheiner Tafel supplies around 1,400 customers,” adds Sebastian Vossel, Head of Department for Work, Housing and Participation at the Caritas Association Rheine.

Without the active support of the numerous honorary coworkers this, for many customers existential offer, would not be to be maintained. But here the Rheiner table comes quite also to borders. Also here the request of the policy is to help, in which the policy is assigned to support the Rheiner table with the recruitment of honorary workers. To gain an insight into the work of the volunteers, the chairwoman of the Rheiner Social Committee, Gertrud Hovestadt (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), helped out for a day at the Tafel together with the volunteers. “I am very impressed by what the volunteers do here, with mind, heart and hand. Volunteering is the glue that holds our city together,” said Hovestadt. Here you can see that it’s not just cash that counts and that not everyone is out for themselves.

Overall, Hovestadt promoted volunteerism: “Volunteer work is so important, be it in sports clubs, in child and senior care, in youth work, in culture and in environmental protection. What would Rheine be without volunteerism? Hopefully, there will continue to be people who volunteer at Rheine. We can’t do without volunteerism!
