29 October marks the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. On this day in 1923, the country’s leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, officially declared the establishment of the Turkish Republic in Ankara, the new capital.

At the invitation of the Turkish Ambassador to Lithuania, Gorkem Baris Tantekin, Vice-Mayor Jolanta Abucevičienė represented the Trakai District Municipality at the anniversary event held at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Vilnius, and Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Edita Rudelienė, was also present.

In 2006, a cooperation agreement was signed between the municipalities of Trakai District and Alanya (Turkey), marking the beginning of a beautiful friendship between the two partner cities. For more than thirteen years, this friendship has been inseparable from the participation of delegations of the partner cities in city festivals, meetings and exchanges of schoolchildren. Trakai District Municipality cooperates with Alanya in the fields of culture, tourism, sport, business and other areas of mutual interest.
