On a bike tour together

Town twinning association Rheine and the partner committee Borne on the road

Rheine. The town twinning association Rheine and the partner committee Borne continued a long-standing tradition with a joint bicycle tour at the weekend. Hans Horstmann had planned a wonderful route from Rheine through southern Emsland via Salzbergen to Emsbüren and past Lake Quendorf back through Schüttorf.

25 participants met at Uhlenhook in the morning. Led by Engelbert Nagelschmidt, the German-Dutch group set off on the approximately 60-kilometer route. Many of the paths led through shady forests – which the cyclists really appreciated on the warmest day of the year so far. Rest stops were made at the “Zum Schlagboom” inn and the “Stähle” hotel. During the breaks and of course also during the tour, there were many opportunities to talk to each other and also to address current issues of the day.

As the rain clouds avoided Rheine, the group arrived dry at Uhlenhook in the evening. The day was rounded off with dinner together. Both sides expressed their willingness to meet up once a year for a full-day tour in the future. So next year they will cycle together again in the Netherlands. Nico Gosselt from the partner committee Borne announced an interesting trip to the province of Overijssel.
