Rheine.” “The liberation came later” – Under this title, a film documentary will be presented next Thursday, at 11 a.m., in the auditorium of the Euregio Comprehensive School in the series “Commemoration and Remembrance.”

Bert Woudstra, born in 1932, tells how he survived the Second World War in Holland as a Jewish child by a miracle. He had to change his hiding place more than 13 times to escape the Holocaust. He told about it in front of about 160 students of the Euregio Gesamtschule Rheine in January this year. His message is: “I came for you – the young generation that still has a future ahead of it and that can contribute to a future of our democracy with peace and respect for the other.”

His profound narration was recorded by four film cameras. A group of students from the Euregio Comprehensive School used them to create this film documentary. Bert Woudstra is the 100th contemporary witness in the project “Contemporary Witnesses Rheiner City History” and will come back to Rheine for the presentation of the film. The event is free of charge.
