“The members of the City Council and Municipal College of Borne sympathize with the victims of the intense violence in Israel and Gaza since Saturday, Oct. 7. As mayor of Borne, I considered with the city council and the college whether we would like to express our condolences by hanging a flag at half-mast. But because every flag choice evokes a backlash and we want to avoid polarization, it was decided not to flag. The conflict in the Middle East has been going on for a long time and is causing many victims among innocent civilians. Our thoughts are with the victims and relatives and all those who sympathize or are in fear and uncertainty because of the situation.”
