Committees from Borne and Rheine in discussion – planning for the coming months discussed

Rheine/Borne. 18 pupils from Leiria will spend from the coming Monday a week in Rheine. The town twinning association has worked out an interesting program that will show the guests from Portugal the Emsstadt from different perspectives. Furthermore, the board of the twinning association was last Friday for the routine planning meeting in Borne. Together with the partner committee, the program for the anniversary year 2023 was drawn up. The twinning with Borne will be 40 years old next year – and this event is to be celebrated with cultural events and various meetings of citizens from both cities.

On Friday, the boards of the two twinning associations met in Borne for a planning meeting.

“We are getting down to work with renewed energy,” said Gertjan Roozendom, chairman of the Borner twinning committee, in welcoming them. And indeed, there will be many interesting events. Already in February, a climate conference will be held to present the latest in building automation and ways to save energy in buildings at the DEOS AG event center. Invited are managing directors of companies, housing associations and municipalities. Organizers are the town twinning association and the city Rheine.

A newly developed bike route will connect Rheine and Borne. Nico Gosselt from Borne and Engelbert Nagelschmidt have worked out the tour. The route, which is a good 60 kilometers long, will be presented to the public next year. The twinning association and the twinning committee will symbolically inaugurate the new link by setting off from their cities on bicycles and meeting in the middle, where the event will be celebrated.

Choirs and musical groups will also be involved in the exchange. The Bornenser will come to Rheine in early summer with 13 groups to perform here. In return, performances by various groups from Rheine are planned in Borne. And in the spring, an artist from the circle “Spektrum 88” from Rheine will exhibit in the Borner synagogue. The sports club TV Jahn Rheine has promised its support in the planned reorganization of the sports department of the municipality Borne. And in the area of senior citizen meetings, possibilities are being explored to bring groups from both cities together. The prelude already takes place shortly on 8 December, when 50 seniors from Borne Rheine and the Christmas market visit.

Other points of the very constructive discussion in Borne were the revival of the primary school exchange, the exchange of experiences of entrepreneurs and the invitation of Borner schools to a street soccer tournament next year. “We are pleased that the partnership is now flourishing again in the anniversary year after the forced break and that we can make interesting encounters possible for the people in both cities,” Reiner Wellmann, chairman of the twinning association, said in conclusion.

Meetings, sightseeing and shared experiences are on the agenda from next Monday for the 18 young people from Leiria, the students from various schools from Rheine and the host parents. To get to know the region better, excursions to Bad Bentheim, Münster and the Overijssel region have also been planned. Furthermore, a German Christmas bakery in the FBS as well as a joint Hipp-Hopp lesson in the sports forum of the TV Jahn. A dedicated team from the twinning association is working in the background to coordinate the activities and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
