Start of construction for the Staelscher Hof quarter Rheine
Rheine. The development of the Rheinecity center continues to pick up speed. We have received the following press release from the city council:
“The start of construction on the new city hotel at Staelscher Hof marks a significant milestone for the future of the city center. The modern building will not only include 120 hotel rooms, 33 high-quality condominiums to KfW40EE standard, office space and a restaurant area with attractive outdoor catering, but will also open a new chapter in the urban development of Rheine.

“The new building on Staelscher Hof is much more than just a hotel project – it is a strong commitment to the further development of our city centre,” emphasizes Mayor Peter Lüttmann. “With this project, we are not only creating new overnight accommodation, but also sustainably strengthening our local economy, tourism and the quality of stay in our city.”
In future, the hotel will attract numerous guests from the region and beyond, provide new impetus for gastronomy, retail and cultural life and create new jobs at the same time.
Investor Hofschröer is also delighted with the official start of construction: “We have been working towards this moment for a long time and are delighted to be able to get started now. Around EUR 28 million will be invested in an area of around 4,330 m² at the Rheine site. The Staelscher Hof quarter Rheine will be a lively, open place in the middle of the city – we are convinced that it will bring real added value for all citizens.”
Upgrading of the surrounding area follows the new hotel building
And the timing couldn’t be better, as the funding approval for another major project reached the city of Rheine at the end of April. Following the hotel construction, the comprehensive redesign of Staelscher Hof and Herrenschreiberstraße will begin. Planned in close consultation with the local community, new green and play areas as well as an attractive surface design will be created, making the city center even more liveable. With urban development funding, the state government and the federal government are helping to build the cities of tomorrow for citizens.
Temporary restrictions with well thought-out solutions
To set up the construction site, it is necessary to close parts of Staelscher Hof and Herrenschreiberstraße (between Bönnekeskappelle and Kolpingstraße) to pedestrian, cycle and delivery traffic. For safety reasons, the Kolpingstraße/Herrenschreiberstraße area in particular will be completely closed to avoid potential conflicts with construction traffic. At the same time, great importance was attached to practicable solutions during planning:

- Access for suppliers remains possible through gates secured with combination locks.
- The adjacent café will have an alternative area for outdoor catering near the water feature.
- The arrangement of the construction fence along the AOK building will ensure that the fire department can access the site.
Despite the unavoidable restrictions, a compact and efficiently used construction site area was set up in relation to the size of the construction site in order to keep the impact on everyday life as low as possible. A bypass plan is attached.
“The start of the construction work marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for Rheine – and we are very much looking forward to what is to come,” says investor Hofschröer.
