Municipal utilities walk off the field as winners

35th soccer tournament of the Caritas children and youth home

Rheine. cpr. Finally soccer was played again! After two years of Corona break, the ball could finally roll again. It was the 35th time that the Caritas Children’s and Youth Home held the traditional soccer tournament in Rheine. The venue was once again the VR Bank Stadium on the Uhlenhook. This time, the company sports teams of the police, the public utility company, the city administration, the district court, the Stadtsparkasse Rheine, the Apetito company, the Caritas Association and the Caritas Children’s and Youth Home as host competed for the popular challenge cup.

Just in time for the start of the tournament, the sun shone and made for a great afternoon of soccer. In two groups, the semi-finalists were determined in contested, but as always very fair games. The Caritas Children’s and Youth Home, as the defending champions, played a strong group phase, but missed out on the semi-finals due to a worse goal ratio. In the final, the strong teams of the police and the municipal utility faced each other. In a close match, which had to be decided in a 9-meter shootout, the Stadtwerke had the soccer gods on their side. Third place went to Caritasverband, which also beat Apetito in a 9-meter shootout. After the tournament, all teams gathered for the third half in the conference center of the Caritas children’s and youth home. There, with delicacies from the grill, one or the other game scene was discussed until late into the night.

Special thanks go to the FCE Rheine, who again provided the venue at the Uhlenhook, the referees Christian Kaisel and Günter Stockhorst as well as the great hard-working helpers behind the scenes, who again ensured a smooth running and excellent catering.
