Social report for senior citizens – not a case for the drawer

Seniors’ advisory council of the city Rheine meets for a workshop at the FBS

RheineLast August, the city administration published the social report for senior citizens at Rheine . It contains results based on an extensive survey of senior citizens from Rheine and various participation modules. It is a report with great potential, which is now to be used and implemented.

At the end of November, following its meeting, the city’s senior citizens’ advisory council Rheine discussed the social report in detail at a workshop in the family education center. The workshop was prepared and moderated by Andrea Gedicke, the city’s senior citizens’ coordinator at Rheine.

The three key topics of “Housing”, “Digitalization” and “Social Participation”, which had already been defined by the city’s social committee Rheine, were discussed and deliberated on together in detail.

The members of the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council of the city of Rheine are the voice of senior citizens in the city of Rheine and were able to contribute important aspects and perspectives thanks to their contacts, their voluntary work and their different experiences.

It was agreed that the city’s work with senior citizens Rheine should be planned on a neighborhood basis and that there should be a well-developed network for various areas of advice and the associated orientation. Where can I find what? Who can advise me on specific issues? Where can I get low-threshold help if I want to continue living in my home? And what is the first step if I want to sell my house after all and who can give me independent advice? The Seniors’ Social Report offers various recommendations for action in this regard, which the Seniors’ Advisory Council has discussed in detail.

The implementation is extensive and must take place with the involvement of various stakeholders in Rheine. However, it is also an opportunity for senior citizens’ policy in Rheine to “grow old well” in this city.
