Salt and literature – an exciting combination

On a guided tour of the Salzsiedehaus, salt and literature form an exciting combination. Museum guide Marianne Probst from the Rheine municipal museums will introduce interested visitors to the birthplace of the Westphalian writer Josef Winckler as well as to the historic boiling pans and salt warehouses this coming Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m.. Winckler, who gained great popularity in the early 20th century, wrote industrial poems, wrote the picaresque novel “Der tolle Bomberg” and set a monument to his Westphalian homeland with the book “Pumpernickel”. His furniture, books and paintings can be seen in the museum today. His father Alfred Winckler, as a salt works inspector, was in charge of the salt works for several years. The second part of the tour is therefore about the centuries-old tradition of salt production on site. During the joint tour you will learn about the hard work of the salt workers and learn some interesting facts about the “white gold” of Bentlage.

Meeting point is the entrance area of the salt boiling house. The costs are 5 € per person. A transferable 4-ticket for the public guided tours of the municipal museums is available for 16 €. Wearing a medical mask or FFP2 mask is required.
