Rheine. In a festive ceremony, a total of seven new colleagues from the Rheine fire department were appointed as civil servants on February 1, 2024. Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann welcomed the new colleagues in the presence of department head Bernd Houppert, head of the fire and rescue station Johannes Hellermann and the head of the fire department’s operational organization/training department Sven Hölscher and emphasized the special importance of this profession.

Marius Ipe, Henning Fischer, Marius Heeke, Lea Fehren, Tobias Kögler, Laura Dreyer and Stefan Middendorf are thus starting their 18-month preparatory service. This begins with training to become a paramedic. This is followed by basic fire department training, a class C driving license, the completion of additional courses such as turntable ladder operator training, equipment maintenance and special training for NBC hazards and the forestry training course, which teaches practical work with a chainsaw. This is followed by practical training phases at various fire stations. The German Sports Badge in silver and the Lifeguard Badge in bronze are also acquired during the preparatory service. The necessary career test can only be taken at the end of July 2025 if all sections have been successfully completed. We wish the new colleagues every success with their training and hopefully the successful completion of their career examination.
