Reinforcement for the fire department Rheine

Seven new full-time firefighters for Rheine

RheineGreat joy in the special fire and rescue service department of the city of Rheine. All seven candidates who started their training in February 2024 have successfully completed the 18-month preparatory service to become fire chiefs. In a small firing ceremony, they have now been officially appointed as probationary civil servants – an important step in a responsible and varied professional career.

Two female fire chiefs and five male fire chiefs will be joining the fire department’s watch departments at Rheine with immediate effect. The appointments were made by the head of department Johannes Hellermann and his deputy Markus Preckeler on behalf of the mayor. By taking on all of the graduates, the city of Rheine is underlining its clear commitment to promoting young talent and sustainably strengthening municipal emergency response.

The preparatory service in North Rhine-Westphalia is regulated on a state-wide basis and comprises intensive practical training over 18 months. In addition to basic firefighting skills such as firefighting, technical assistance and handling hazardous substances, the mandatory program also includes a sound emergency medical qualification as a paramedic. The training is supplemented by content such as civil service law, civics, scientific and technical basics as well as tactical training.

Another important part of the training was two multi-week fire station internships, during which the prospective fire officers were able to gain their first practical operational experience and experience everyday life at the station at first hand. With the successful passing of the career test in recent weeks, the preparatory service has now officially come to an end.

In future, the seven new firefighters will work in the three fire department departments at Rheine and will be deployed in both fire protection and rescue services. In this way, the city of Rheine is not only strengthening its operational readiness in terms of personnel, but is also sending a clear signal for future-proof structures in civil protection.
