This Tuesday, at a town hall meeting, the Municipality of Leiria approved the award of the contract to build a traffic circle on the EN242, next to the Barosa Industrial Estate, for the sum of 1,252,789.60 euros and with an execution time of 540 days.
Considering that the current design of the junction is unsuited to the growing flow of traffic in recent years and the evolution of the industrial area, the municipality sees the traffic circle as the solution for reducing accidents, calming traffic and increasing the area’s potential for economic development.
In addition to the implementation of a new rainwater drainage system and better lighting, the project also includes work on the accesses to Rua dos Petigais and Rua das Acácias, the planting of trees on the traffic circle’s central island and the reinstallation of the low-voltage underground network.
The intervention is the result of a management agreement signed in 2021 with Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), which will assume part of the investment (600,000 euros), and the contract is now being analyzed by the Court of Auditors, as the investment exceeds 750,000 euros.
