City interns Rheine collect for the VDK

Rheine. As a decades-old tradition, all trainees at Rheine participated in the street collection for the German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.) at the end of 2023. The collection was accompanied by an additional sale of waffles to colleagues at City Hall, which was independently organized by the trainees. “A great idea that shows how involved our young employees are,” said Florentine Kühs-Sandmann (head of training). Treasurer and first councillor Mathias Krümpel thanked them together with chairman Andre Brüggemann during a short meeting for their special and voluntary efforts.

The waffle sale raised a considerable amount of €310.86. Together with the street collection, a total of €924.76 was raised, a great success.

What many people don’t realize: The Volksbund not only cares for and maintains graves, but is also involved in remembrance culture, promotes meetings and education for young people at the graves and advises – also internationally – on matters related to war grave care.
