On July 20, I will be 72 years young – and I am doing very well! On the other hand, the many people in Ukraine who are suffering from the terrible war are not doing well at all. Months ago, our twinning association set itself the task of helping people in the country invaded by Russia. Through our fundraising campaign, a lot of money has already been collected. Through our twin town Trakai in Lithuania we were able to buy medicine for two partner hospitals in the Ukraine.
But we were also able to help locally in Rheine by organizing accommodation and care for refugees who were passing through to visit their relatives in Portugal.
Now we are supporting another project: On Friday, at the invitation of 1. FC Eintracht Rheine and the Caritasverband, 15 young people and their companions came to Rheine from a soccer boarding school in eastern Ukraine. With Bullys they were picked up by FCE members and Caritas employees at the Ukrainian-Polish border and brought to Rheine.
They and three mothers are accommodated in facilities of the Caritas children and youth home. Due to the enormous increase in fuel prices, the transport alone cost 3500 euros with several vehicles. Also in the next weeks and possibly months we need urgently money, in order to be able to support the stay of the children in Rheine. Of course, the social welfare office of the city of Rheine is also on board, but there is no money for additional expenses. By the way: We are also urgently looking for bicycles for the children and women.
I would be happy if you could spare a few euros and give them to me for my birthday:
The twinning association is looking forward to further support. Monetary donations can be transferred to the account IBAN DE 65 4035 0005 0000 0642 53 under the keyword “Hilfe für die Ukraine” at the Stadtsparkasse Rheine. (Donation receipts will be issued upon request).
