Themed tour on Sunday, April 16 at 3 pm in the Falkenhof Museum.

A short historical journey through time awaits visitors to the Falkenhof Museum this coming Sunday at 3 pm. The review reaches back to the beginnings of the city Rheine, whereby the year 838 plays an important role. The document in which the “villa Reni” was mentioned for the first time dates back to this year. Already during the Saxon wars around 800 AD, a royal court secured the trade routes crossing here and the Ems ford.

A special piece of jewelry from this period, a strap fitting, was discovered by archaeologists during excavations on the site of the market square and can now be admired in one of the museum’s display cases. The role played by Emperor Louis the Pious and the Abbess of Herford in the beginnings of the city and how the “villa Reni” developed into the city of Rheine are illuminated by tour guide Ulrike Henne during this special themed tour. The view of the city models, which illustrate the situation in 838, 1362 and 1685, makes the growth and change of the city comprehensible. Linked with exciting exhibition objects, the city’s history up to the caesura brought about by industrialization comes to life.Participation costs 5 euros, a transferable four-person ticket is available for 16 euros at the museum box office. Registration is not required. For children the museum team prepared a folder, with which they can explore the falcon yard playfully. Information is available by phone 05971 / 939 711.
