Festival of amateur music in Rheine

From March 8 to 10, 2024 ensembles from all over Germany will come together.

The host city will present itself with three ensembles at the opening concert on Friday evening in the Stadthalle Rheine: the flute choir Flirty Flutes, the saxophone orchestra Saxophoria and the mixed choir Soalbate. Saturday starts with another highlight: 50 children from nine elementary school will sing together at the kids’ concert in the Emsgalerie in the city center. Afterwards, all participants, all people from Rheine and all guests are invited to the Open Singing. After an ecumenical service, the Hanover Synagogal Choir and the Ensemble Saxophoria open the Long Night of Music in St. Anthony’s Basilica. The Aloysius Kiebitzheide marching band and fanfare band Rheine, consisting of almost 40 young people, will accompany the guests into the city center with traditional music – as well as lively samba and pop rhythms. There, guests can listen to a total of 32 ensembles live at ten venues: From pop choir to swing band, from mandolin orchestra to gospel choir, from klezmer trio to symphony orchestra, there is something for every taste. BMCO President Benjamin Strasser MdB comments: “With the Days of Choral and Orchestral Music 2024 in Rheine, we can repeatedly prove how diverse amateur music is in Germany. Namely: as diverse as our country itself. From classical choirs and wind orchestras to big bands – there is something for everyone in amateur music. The TCOMs show us the high level at which people make music together and experience the joy of music. The social significance is immediately apparent: amateur music promotes social contacts in real life, it strengthens the sense of community and, this year in particular, also makes an important contribution to promoting democracy with Jewish music. Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann: “As a city on the Ems,Rheine is an excellent host for a festival of amateur music. We are proud to be able to show once again how passionately our local music societies shape the cultural musical life of our city as part of the Days of Choral and Orchestral Music from 8 to 10 March. I would like to cordially invite everyone to give themselves the gift of an individual concert experience at the TCOM through the free music offerings. More than 40 ensembles at over 11 venues – Rheine will sound great!” On Sunday morning, four top ensembles will once again be performing at the closing concert, including the a capella choir Groophonik and the Wuppertaler Kurrende boys’ choir, which will be honored with the Zelter Plaque 2024 as part of this festive event. With this award and the PRO MUSICA plaque, the Federal President thanks choirs and orchestras that have been making music for 100 years every year for their valuable musical and social commitment. Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth MdB will present both plaques in the Stadthalle Rheine.
