Caritas Rheine thanks volunteers for their many years of social and charitable commitment

Rheine.cpr. social department store Brauchbar & Co., food bank, city recreation or hospice are just a few examples of the many fields of work within Caritas Rheine in which many people are involved on a voluntary basis. The fields of activity are diverse and range from committee work to caring for, accompanying and supporting young people, children, families, elderly people, people with disabilities, people with mental illnesses, people suffering from addiction, people with a history of migration and lonely, desperate people in various life situations to supporting the full-time employees of Caritas.

For many volunteers, voluntary work is so natural that it is part of everyday life. Many no longer even ask themselves the question of “why”. “I had time, I’m physically well and I wanted to do something meaningful.” “I was a person in need of help myself in the past and saw an opportunity to change things on a small scale.” These and many other answers are given when the approximately 420 volunteers at Caritas Rheine are asked about their reasons for volunteering. Every year, Caritas Rheine takes the opportunity to thank all volunteers who have been involved in voluntary social and charitable work for 10, 25 or more years at a ceremony. This year, the ceremony took place in the gable room of the Caritas building on Lingener Straße.As part of this ceremony, four Caritas volunteers received a special award to thank them for their many years of commitment. In his welcoming speech, Caritas board member Dieter Fühner thanked all the volunteers: “You know the needs of local people and can help immediately and unbureaucratically,” emphasized Fühner. Fühner cited the 365 days a year that the soup kitchen is open as an example. Or the various forms of support in the Caritas-Elisabethstift residential home for the elderly. The respective volunteer supervisors from the services and facilities introduced the volunteers and their areas of responsibility and, together with Dieter Fühner, presented the badges of honour, a bouquet of flowers and a small gift as a thank you.The following volunteers were honoured for their many years of commitment.
