Classic Germany – Netherlands

E-Soccer competition between young athletes from the two twin cities starts next year

Borne/Rheine. It’s one of the great classics in soccer at World Cups and European Championships: the Netherlands versus Germany. Now, the friendly duel is being continued on a smaller scale, albeit electronically: the twinning committee Borne and the town twinning association Rheine want to invite young athletes from the two twin towns to take part in an e-soccer competition next year.”It would be great if we could get young people from our cities interested in this competition,” said Nico Gosselt from the partner committee Borne and Reiner Wellmann, chairman of the town twinning association Rheine, after a preparatory meeting at Borner Rathaus. And Marc Schwegmann, who is responsible for e-soccer at FC Eintracht Rheine, saw a good chance of attracting many young people to this comparison on Tuesday in Borne.

E-Soccer is becoming increasingly popular internationally. Young people in particular love this sport, which relies on quick reactions and strategic skill on the game console. The city partners want to offer the tournament in two age groups on a Saturday next year. The venue will probably be the clubhouse of the large sports club NEO Borne. At the moment, the organizers are looking for a game-free Saturday either in January or later in the Easter period.

The Bornensers have already found a provider offering hardware and software for up to 80 participants. And as all participants are enthusiastic about the idea, the city partners are very optimistic about organizing such a city duel with young participants next year. The town twinning association Rheine would organize a bus to take the participants from the Ems city to Borne and back.

The participants will of course also be provided with refreshments on the day. Experts from Weplay will also ensure that everything runs smoothly in terms of organization.

Further details will be announced after another meeting at the end of October. The sporting comparison will be advertised primarily in the clubs and secondary schools in the twin towns. Interested parties can contact the press and partnership department of the city from Monday (October 6) at Rheine, telephone 939 221. www.friendsineurope.com
