City partners cycling on the road

RHEINE. Good weather, best mood – and plans for further cooperation concretized: The joint bicycle tour of the Town Twinning Association Rheine with the Partner Committee Borne last Thursday went extraordinarily harmoniously. Despite the announced heat 16 participants had come to the starting point in Langenhorst. From there, Hans Horstmann, who had planned the tour, led the participants to Haus Wellbergen. Horstmann explained to the guests from the twin town that there are also references to the Borne region in the history of the house. The group marveled at the beautiful gardens and set off for Burgsteinfurt, where the Bagno restaurant was the next destination.

After a break at the Kieferngrundsee and a visit to the Bagno music gallery, the cyclists fortified themselves during a lunch break. The route continued directly to Wettringen along quiet farm roads and beautiful country lanes. A short detour was made to Villa Jordaan. Hans Horstmann had also collected interesting points from the history there.

The group concluded the tour with dinner at Althoff’s Landhotel. And for next year’s tour in the Netherlands, there was the idea of perhaps planning a two-day joint trip. Nico Gosselt, member of the partner committee and at the same time chairman of the Borne cycling club, had some suggestions that were very well received by the people of Rhineland. And so this beautiful tradition of the two city partners, which had to be interrupted for two years because of the pandemic, will be continued again.
