Children suffer particularly from the war

In der Sportschule für Kinder mit Behinderung in Mykolaev freut man sich über über die Hilfe aus Rheine.

Town twinning association continues to support aid organizations with donations

Rheine. Long gone are the days when large projects could be co-financed from the town twinning association’s well-filled “Ukraine Aid” donation account. Entire pallets of medicines and bandages were transported to Ukrainian war zones and hospitals in the hinterland together with the Lithuanian twin town Trakai. Heating appliances and power generators were financed and even warm underwear for the soldiers on the front line was on the shopping list.

The volume of donations is falling sharply – and not just for aid for the people in Ukraine. Nevertheless, the town twinning association does not want to stop its support. For more than a year, new paths have been taken. Because children are among the greatest victims of this war, smaller projects have been supported since then that take care of the youngest children:

The “Peace of Mind” project was set up for the psychological rehabilitation of war-damaged children. This is a free psychological programme that aims to stabilize the children. Virtual reality glasses were co-financed. The goggles are already being actively used in the work with children and are showing good results.

Art therapy at Onovlena Ukraine in Odessa

“Onovlena Ukraine” from Odessa is a facility for the psychological rehabilitation of children and parents from war zones. This organization was able to buy an electric charging station with the money from Rheine. The power supply in Odessa is very difficult at the moment. Electricity is only available for two to three hours a day.

“Ruh Myloserdia” is an organization in Mykolaev that supports the children’s home, the boarding school and the sports school for children with physical disabilities. A massage table for treating the disabled children was purchased for this facility. An energy-efficient lamp was also purchased for the treatment room.

This massage bench could be purchased for the treatment of children.

Last but not least, the organization “Women’s Future without Borders”, which cares for women affected by war and violence, is also supported.

Amounts of 500 euros are transferred at irregular intervals, depending on the cash situation. The items and aids are purchased locally.

When it comes to donations, there is always the fear that money will disappear into some “dark channels”. This is certainly not the case with the help provided by the town twinning association. “We receive a precise statement of use for all items purchased, from drums and painting utensils to the smallest aid,” says Ingrid Brauer, treasurer of the town twinning association.

The board of the town twinning association is happy to receive further donations for this special kind of help for children. The donation account: IBAN DE65403500050000064253, keyword: Spendenaktion Ukraine, at Stadtsparkasse Rheine. Donation receipts can be issued on request.
